There are several issues to be aware of when purchasing a shirt. The first,
is proper sizing. Most gentlemen buy shirts the wrong size. The reason
is they don't incorporate the shrinkage allowance when determining their
proper size. What usually happens is they buy a shirt; it fits them just
right the first few times it is worn, then it shrinks to where it is too
tight in the neck. Here is a good rule of thumb to go by:
- Determine your proper neck skin size.
- If skin measures:
13"-15-1/2" -order a shirt 1/2" greater than skin neck measurement.
16"- 18" -order a shirt 3/4" greater than skin neck measurement.
18" -21" -order a shirt 1" greater than skin neck measurement.
- Let me do the measuring. It's hard to get an accurate measurement
standing in front of the mirror with your craftsman metal measuring
tape.
